Is Thinking the Only Way to Use the Mind?

by Tim Che'

"We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts, we make the world."
(Allegedly the Buddha)

This quote is generally accepted as a "truth", as it is presented, in the 'New age' movement and it is particularly appealing to the intellectual part of the mind. You know... the part that likes to "think".  Most likely this quote was translated by a thinking mind as it made sense to the thinker.

It is interesting to observe that the Buddha, and Buddhist teachings, clearly advocates, and are associated with, the meditative state of "no thinking". Yet, here he is said to claim that thinking is what we are!? And that "ALL that we are arises with our thoughts". And "with our thoughts we make the world".

Hmmmm... so let me get this straight: Thinking creates my world and it is what I am. Basically it’s everything!  But, we are to go through extraordinary measures and disciplines, for maybe 20 or more years, to learn to,  NOT THINK?

Huh?

Disclaimer: This writer is in no way  claiming to be any kind of expert on the Buddha or Buddhism. The writer is only expressing his own revelation as it has been presented to him. If you are in disagreement with any statements in this article, the writer is agreeable to leave you with them in peace.

I am guessing that the "thinking" minds really love this Buddha translation:
" Look! See how great thinking is!"
But is this quote true and is it what the Buddha really said and meant? There is clearly a conflict with this quote’s interpretation and the teachings, so let us explore it.

Images in the Mind...

Thinking is a tool.
Yet, it is a lesser tool than the gift of the Imagination.
You can Imagine something.
That is a creative action.
You can think about what you Imagined and that is a re-action.
Thinking is always in response to something. Either from the "outside" world, or often in response to itself.
As a tool, thinking can enhance or be useful to a creative act of Imagination.
Losing control of the thinking tool can be very destructive.
Proceed with caution! Be patiently aware and assert your mastery of the tools of your mind.

Mental Diets...

Dare You to Read This Every Night Before You Go to Bed and See What Happens!

Neville Goddard  1955

MENTAL DIETS

Talking to oneself is a habit everyone indulges in. We could no more stop talking to ourselves than we could stop eating and drinking. All that we can do is control the nature and the direction of our inner conversations. Most of us are totally unaware of the fact that our inner conversations are the causes of the circumstance of our life.

We are told that "as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." But do we know that man's thinking
follows the tracks laid down in his own inner conversations? To turn the tracks to which he is tied in the direction in which he wants to go, he must put off his former conversation, which is called in the Bible the Old Man, and be renewed in the spirit of his mind. Speech is the image of mind; therefore, to change his mind, he must first change his speech. By 'speech' is meant those mental conversations we carry on with ourselves.

The world is a magic circle of infinite possible mental transformations. For there are an infinite number of possible mental conversations.

When man discovers the creative power of inner talking, he will realize his function and his mission in life. Then he can act to a purpose. Without such knowledge, he acts unconsciously. Everything is a manifestation of the mental conversations which go on in us without our being aware of them. But as civilized beings, we must become aware of them and act with a purpose.

A man's mental conversations attracts his life. As long as there is no change in his inner talking, the personal history of the man remains the same. To attempt to change the world before we change our inner talking is to struggle against the very nature of things. Man can go round and round in the same circle of disappointments and misfortunes, not seeing them as caused by his own negative inner talking, but as caused by others... Read More:

Love is Not Emotion...

"Obviously love is not sentiment. To be sentimental, to be emotional, is not love, because
sentimentality and emotion are mere sensations. A religious person who weeps about Jesus or Krishna, about his guru and somebody else is merely sentimental, emotional. He is indulging in sensation, which is a process of thought, and thought is not love. Thought is the result of sensation, so the person who is sentimental, who is emotional, cannot possibly know love. Again, aren’t we emotional and sentimental? Sentimentality, emotionalism, is merely a form of self-expansion. To be full of emotion is obviously not love, because a sentimental person can be cruel when his sentiments are not responded to, when his feelings have no outlet. An emotional person can be stirred to hatred, to war, to butchery. A man who is sentimental, full of tears for his religion, surely, has no love."          - Krishnamurti, The First and Last Freedom, pp 232-233

Is Money Really the Root of all Evil?

The following is an exerpt from Ayan Rand's novel,  'Atlas Shrugged". This
monologue is in response to a  character in the book who makes a disparaging remark directed at the speaker, claiming that he is the product of money and that money is the root of all evil. His response is very in-depth and will really make you question all our programming about money. It is a very idealistic viewpoint and it would appear that modern culture has drifted far away from that ideal. The movie is fascinating and the novel is even more controversial today than it was back in 1957. We like this quote because it makes us think and even if we are not quite sure what we think about parts of it... we enjoy the exercise!

“So you think that money is the root of all evil?” said Francisco d’Anconia. “Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can’t exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?

The Prodigal Son... a Mystical Revelation

Here, we will be discussing the biblical story of The Prodigal Son from the perspective of the mystic. And from that perspective the story is a true revelation. Keep in mind that the bible can be read on many different levels and what is interpreted comes at the level of consciousness of the reader or the interpreter..

The religious contemporaries see the story as  "A story of forgiveness, redemption, and the unfailing, never-ending love of the Father who waits for each of us to come home."...Which is nice.

Sometimes the 'father' is seen as a physical father waiting for his long lost son, and sometimes the 'father' is seen as God waiting for you (the son) to come to your senses and return. But the story falls apart when the wayward son returns and gets the robe, the ring, the fatted calf and the party! The faithful son who stayed behind by God's (or the father's) side seems to have

Feed Your Satisfaction... Not Your Hunger

"You may feed your hunger by thinking of your desire, or feed its satisfaction by thinking from its fulfillment." (Neville)

...A critical distinction in the use of your mind towards creative ends. It is important to remember that

thoughts do not create things

Thoughts come in patterns from the channel you are tuned into unconsciously. To change to a more desirable channel, one must tune the mind to it by 'Thinking FROM the fulfillment of desire'. That means imagining the FEELING of already having what you now desire. Practice the feeling until it feels natural and normal. You may even lose the feeling of desire for it. The worst case scenario is that nothing will change but you will have the joy of feeling better while you practice. And if you practice, for as little as 17 seconds a day, you WILL see results!

Reverence...

Here is an appropriate excerpt for Thanksgiving from Neville Goddard's book "The Power of Awareness"

"In all creation, in all eternity, in all the realms of your infinite being,
the most wonderful fact is that
YOU ARE GOD.
You are the "I am that I am".
You are consciousness.
You are the creator.

This is the mystery, this is the great secret known by the seers, prophets and mystics throughout the ages. This is the truth that you can never know intellectually.

Who is this you? That it is you, John Jones or Mary Smith, is absurd. It is the consciousness which knows that you are John Jones or Mary Smith. It is your greater self, your deeper self, your infinite being. Call it what you will. The important thing is that it is within you, it is you, it is your world. It is this fact that underlies the immutable Law of Assumption. It is upon this fact that your very existence is built.

No... you cannot know this intellectually, you cannot debate it, you cannot substantiate it. You can only feel it. You can only be aware of it.

Becoming aware of it, one great emotion permeates your being. You live with a perpetual feeling of Reverence. The knowledge that your creator is the very self of yourself and never would have made you had he first not loved you must fill your heart with devotion, yes, with adoration. One knowing glimpse of the world around you at any single instant of time is sufficient to fill you with profound awe and a feeling of worship.

It is when your feeling of reverence is most intense that you are closest to God, and when you are closest to God, Your life is richest.

Our deepest feelings are precisely those we are least able to express, and even in the act of adoration, silence is our highest praise."

Beyond the Consciousness of Fascism...

Discover the Imaginative Power of Redemption

by Tim Che'

from the April 2007 issue of Edge Life Magazine

Freedom to Fascism is an Internet film by director Aaron Russo. Its title reveals its content as it relates to current affairs in this country.

It is a real eye-opener about some dire possibilities that exist as potential truths that could affect the freedoms and the way of life we have become so comfortable with in our society.

To us... this film raises some important questions that directly relate to the power of the "states of consciousness" we entertain individually and collectively.

It is also a magnificent opportunity to learn to exercise the power of redemption -- that is, our ability to revise any images in our mind, of the past, present or future, to conform to our ideals. Such a revision will affect a change in the world, and yes, that includes the past that we all love to believe is so permanent. This revision is not an idle rearrangement of language in the chattering mind. It is actually... READ MORE click here

Walking the Time-Tracks of your Mind...

Interpretedby Tim Che' from Neville Goddard 1954

I am going to ask a question which you can silently answer yourself:

“Have you lived this life of yours in such a way that you desire to live it again?”

Well, if you haven't, you'd better pay close attention, for I tell you that;

“Your next life is this life.”

When you awaken, and the inner eye is opened, it will be clear to you. You will see that unless manawakens and changes the tracks that he walks in this life… he will walk them forever. So, if you have not lived this life in such a way that you really desire to live it again, then you must start now to interfere with these tracks… these habits of your mind, and start laying new tracks.

Let me give you just one simple little vision; Lying on my bed, suddenly the inner-eye opened, and I saw a man casually dressed in working clothes walking the sidewalks of a major city. As he came to a hole that was open to receive coal, in fact the coal had just been delivered, he dropped something from his hand. He bent down to pick it up but instead of picking up the thing he dropped, he picked up huge hunks of coal that were scattered around the hole, and then my vision relaxed. When I re-concentrated the vision it was on the early part of that scene of the man walking down the sidewalk. He came to the man-hole, he dropped the item as he had in the previous state. He bent down and he picked up the coal, instead of the package, as he had done before. Everything was in detail. As I saw it for the second time, I said "Now that scene hasn't changed one bit." My attention again relaxed; when I re-concentrated it, it again was on the early part of the scene.

Now I could prophesy for that man; I knew exactly what he would do every moment of time right up to that manhole; that he would drop his package and not pick it up, but pick up the coal. I knew he would look into that manhole and then change his mind. I knew in detail what that man would do. You see…

We are walking tracks and the tracks are forever,

And by the mere curvature of time… your next life is this life. You simply replay it. So, if you have not lived your life in a way that you are proud of, you must start now and start laying new tracks in your mind today.

Relationship as a Means of Escape..

Read more about Relationships at http://lifestyleluminaries.blogspot.com/p/we.html

"Relationship has true significance only when it is a process of self-revelation, when it is revealing oneself in the very action of relationship. But most of us do not want to be revealed in relationship. On the contrary, we use relationship as a means of covering up our own insufficiency, our own troubles, our own uncertainty. So relationship becomes mere movement, mere activity. I do not know if you have noticed that relationship is very painful, and that as long as it is not a revealing process, in which you are discovering yourself, relationship is merely a means of escape from yourself."  - Krishnamurti, The Collected Works vol V p 230

The Map is not the Territory...

By Tim Che'

I don't know about you, but I have always been fascinated by maps. Maps are handy things to have when you want to get somewhere that you have not been before.  I love getting a sense of the spatial relationship of where I am to my surroundings. I have spent an inordinate amount of time looking at maps and things like Google Earth. And, even as detailed as Google Earth can be, I am ALWAYS astonished to discover that the actual place is not at all like the map, or Google Earth with the street view! It is always MUCH more in depth, and full of life, and overwhelming to the senses... a profound level of awareness and presence in an eternal moment that no map could ever come close to.

There are many kinds of maps... not just about locations and roads or paths. Religions are a map to
God, supposedly. Science is the modern map of  the material world. Pharmaceuticals and surgeries are a popular map to health.

There are mind-maps, star maps, and even a map of human consciousness. And all maps are created through someone's remembered and recorded perceptions and/or analysis of hopefully accurate data. Hopefully, of course, for anyone who wishes to follow the map and get to a particular destination.

So, maps attempt to lay out the territory and build paths to destinations. Then we discover...

And what does that say about "destinations" as it relates to "truth"? Let us address that later as we continue to explore "maps".

The History of the Soul of MAN...

A 1959 Lecture by Neville, interpreted by Tim Che for today's reader

Our Discussion today is concerned only with the great secret of life. Here we are convinced that the Supreme Power that created and sustains the universe is Divine Imagining, and it does not differ from human imagination except in degree of intensity of the one who is Imagining. So,  your wonderful Imagination is God, in Man. This is what we are referring to when we say "God".

We tell you that Imagination (God in you) creates Reality, but keep in mind that at this human level on earth, it takes time, persistence and practice. If our Imaginations are awakened and we are aware of it, we must learn how to use it. We use it by creating Images. If we will persist in the image, live in it, sleep in it and breathe in it, it will crystallize into tangible form, it will become real in this world.

Night after night we explore different facets of this truly great secret, the Secret of Imagining. Tonight, we will explore the greatest book about Imagination in the world, The Bible, and we will look at it from the perspective of the mystic. So, as we turn to it, keep in mind that the Bible is addressed to the Imagination in you and not to the man of who relies on the 5 senses or the man of logic & reason who is lost in the "flood" of "facts" and cannot understand the Imagination that preceded ALL facts.  They are the ones that are referred to in the Bible as "lost" or "dead" or "sound asleep."

Interestingly, it says in the Old Testament that "Adam" fell into a profound sleep. And nowhere in the

Bearing the Beams of Love...

"You see, all things are taking place now. Eternity exists and all things in eternity independent of creation, which was an act of mercy. Entering a certain section of the dream, we animate it and become aware of that which already is. The past has not ceased to be. It is taking place as it took place and still takes place when anyone enters that section of time. The same is true with the future. The year 1969 finds us standing on the moon. It always has been so. The world is, and we are placed upon this little space called earth to learn to bear the beams of love, for God is infinite love. I know, for I stood in His presence, then came down and entered a specter in order to learn to love and take on substance.

Not long ago I was in another section of time instructing a group of maybe a dozen men all seated around me. In the center with me was a spectrum, a shadow of a man. I could move him about and do with him as I willed. Then I said to him, "Go and love. To the degree that you love, you will acquire substance. Only then can you take part in the drama and awake with life in yourself."

What I said to those men I say to you now. At the present time you are only an animated being, not a life-giving spirit. One day you will acquire substance (acquire love) then you will become one with life in your self, knowing that all things were made through the creative act of love (the act of mercy) and without it was not anything made. As life-giving spirits we all return to the one being as that one being, yet retaining our own identity. We will never lose our identity, but rather we will grow ever-greater individualization."  Neville, From "Behold, the Dreamer Cometh"

The Trivium & Quadrivium...

The most powerful, creative apparatus in existence... The Imagination.
But, alas, it sits idle in our minds because we have been taught to use our minds to "Think".
Now, had we been taught the Trivium & Quadrivium before the chaotic garbage of "education" set in, "Thinking" would be a bridge to the Imagination, and its partner, in a unique, creative expression.

If you have not heard of the Trivium & Quadrivium, we suggest you take a quick look at its Wiki description here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trivium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrivium
They teach the mind HOW to THINK... Amazingly absent from modern education, at least among the masses.

Why are We Hear?...

by Tim Che'
To listen for the call...
of the birth of the Imagination in You

Image-Making happens in Man's Imagination

The Imagination is that part of your mind that can "see" things with your eyes closed; that can "hear" the voice of a departed loved one; that can "smell" coffee cooking even in its absence and can reach out and "feel" the softness of a rose petal in your mind. It is this part of you that can connect directly to the eternal. After all... if you can smell bacon cooking, even though their is none present, then where does the smell of bacon cooking exist? When you close your eyes to the "outer" world and find yourself standing outside on a sunny day, in a dream... where does the sunlight come from? If you can, in a dream, see places and objects, and have conversations with people... where do these things exist?

They all exist inside you... in your eternal nature. They exist in that part of you that is distracted by thinking and overwhelmed with responses to the physical senses. It is where ALL things exist and it is within YOU.
You are "The Light of the World"

But you/we have been taught to use our minds to "Think".
And thought has NEVER created anything.

Thought can only "Think" about what has been created. Yet, it is so clever that it can think it is being creative. A truly creative act

So, You Say you Love God?

When you say you love God what does it mean? It means that you love a projection of your own imagination, a projection of yourself clothed in certain forms of respectability according to what you think is noble and holy; so to say, 'I love God', is absolute nonsense. When you worship God you are worshiping yourself - and that is not love. - Krishnamurti, Freedom from the Known,79

Logic is Man-Made...

Osho:  "I have told you that;

a woman is to be loved, not understood.

That is the first understanding: life is so
mysterious that our hands cannot reach to its heights, our eyes cannot look into its deepest mystery. Understanding any expression of existence – men or women or trees or animals or birds – is the function of science, not of a mystic. I am not a scientist. To me science itself is a mystery, and now scientists have started to recognize it. They are dropping their old stubborn, superstitious attitude that one day they will know all that is to be known.

With Albert Einstein the whole history of science has taken a very different route because the more he went into the deepest core of matter, the more he became puzzled. All logic was left behind, all rationality was left behind. You cannot dictate to existence, because it does not follow your logic.

Logic is man-made.

There was a point in Albert Einstein's life when he remembers that he was wavering about whether to insist on being rational...but that would be foolish. It would be human, but not intelligent. Even if you insist on logic, on rationality, existence is not going to change according to your logic; your logic has to change according to existence. And the deeper you go, existence becomes more and more mysterious.

A point comes when you have to leave logic and rationality and just listen to nature. I call it the ultimate understanding – but not in the ordinary sense of understanding. You know it, you feel it, but there is no way to say it.

Man is a mystery, woman is a mystery, everything that exists is a mystery – and all our efforts to figure it out are going to fail."

The Evidence of Dis-Trust... Contracts

by Tim Che'
Clearly, we embark on a journey to understand the true nature of ourselves, our mind, the "external" world and the source of all causation.

We must proceed carefully for we are bound to encounter the resistance of people who are not inclined to such an endeavor, and are not prepared, yet, to accept the ultimate responsibility that comes at the conclusion of such a quest. It is alright. It is part of the design. It is simply a matter of learning how to navigate such a terrain.

And so we step into the world of CONTRACTS.

The word itself makes one begin to recoil and collapse... to contract, if you will, into a state of dis-empowerment and smallness. It seems to be the accepted norm in our culture and yet, you can't deny that "pit in you gut" feeling when you find yourself needing to sign a lengthy one that you do not really understand. Perhaps, those who are trained as attorneys, and understand the "secret" and tricky language of that world, may revel in the ability to outwit their rivals and "get a better deal", or "pull one over" on the lesser intellectual. They are free to use this skill and knowledge to rule as tyrants, or help the ignorant navigate this system of trickery and mistrust. But they are the exception, the minority, and are doing the best that they know how. However, do we need contracts, attorneys and complex language if we TRUST? And, what is it to TRUST?

"Contracts don't work because they're not based on trust" (Prince)

Coincidentally, while writing this article, I saw the interview of Prince (R.I.P.) with Larry King, in which he
made the above statement... a wise person indeed! Most people will quickly dismiss the premise of this statement because they are not interested in discovering what it is to trust, implicitly. If a person is really intelligent and has an education that others do not, it just seems easier for them to get what they want using and placing their trust in the tools of contracts and their intellectual prowess over the lessor intelligent and educated. And who could blame them? But, What kind of world would it be if we could trust ourselves, trust others and trust in workings of this world we find ourselves in? Great question!

The foundation of trust is in the knowledge of "Causation".
And the bedrock of causation is in the direct experience that "Imagination Creates Reality"

If you had the direct experience of actually being the source of Causation in your world, you would

Touch...

By David Whyte:

...is what we desire in one form or another, even if we find it through being alone, through the agency
of silence or through the felt need to walk at a distance: the meeting with something or someone other than ourselves, the light brush of grass on the skin, the ruffling breeze, the actual touch of another’s hand; even the gentle first touch of an understanding which until now, we were formally afraid to hold.

Whether we touch only what we see or the mystery of what lies beneath the veil of what we see, we are made for unending meeting and exchange, while having to hold a coherent mind and body, physically or imaginatively, which in turn can be found and touched itself. We are something for the world to run up against and rub up against: through the trials of love, through pain, through happiness, through our simple everyday movement through the world.

And the world touches us in many ways, some of which are violations of the body or our hopes for safety: through natural disaster, through heartbreak, through illness, through death itself. In the ancient world the touch of a God was seen as both a blessing and a violation - at one and the same time. Being alive in the world means being found by the world and sometimes touched to the core in ways we would rather not experience.

Growing with our bodies, all of us find ourselves at one time violated or wounded by this world in difficult ways, and still we live and breathe in this touchable, sensual world, and through

Hell Invented by Church to Control People with Fear...

This video is of an interview retired Episcopal bishop John Shelby Spong did with Keith Morrison of Dateline NBC back in August of 2006.

"I don’t think Hell exists...",  "Religion is always in the control business...",
"The church doesn’t like for people to grow up, because you can’t control grown-ups. That’s why we talk about being born again. When you’re born again, you’re still a child. People don’t need to be born again. They need to grow up. They need to accept their responsibility for themselves and the world."

"God is not a Christian. God is not a Jew or a Muslim or a Hindi or Buddhist. All of those are human systems, which human beings have created to try to help us walk into the mystery of God. I honor my tradition. I walk through my tradition. But I don’t think my tradition defines God. It only points me to God.

The Real Cause of Cancer...

Every page of this web/blog is dedicated to the expression of a revolution in human consciousness, revealed in the Awakened Imagination, as the cause of all phenomenon. Clearly, health or disease is caused by the "inner" life of the individual more than the "outer".  Here, Andreas Moritz, explains the true cause of cancer and eloquently shows us that disease is fundamentally psycho-somatic and comes from our state of mind... Which is exactly what we have been teaching about the relationship between the Human Imagination and reality. As a close friend and contemporary of Che's, that she befriended while living in Minnesota, we thank you with all our heart! Andreas Moritz... R. I. P.

Belief is the Worst Thing That has Ever Happened...

by Byron Katie

A doctor once took a sample of my blood and came back to me with a long face. He said he was
bringing bad news; he was very sorry, but I had cancer. Bad news? I couldn’t help laughing. When I looked at him, I saw that he was quite taken aback. Not everyone understands this kind of laughter. Later, it turned out that I didn’t have cancer, and that was good news too.

The truth is that until we love cancer, we can’t love life. It doesn’t matter what symbols we use—poverty, loneliness, loss—it’s the concepts of good and bad that we attach to them that make us suffer. I was sitting once with a friend who had a huge tumor, and the doctors had given her just a few weeks to live. As I was leaving her bedside, she said, “I love you,” and I said, “No, you don’t. You can’t love me until you love your tumor. Every concept that you put onto that tumor, you’ll eventually put onto me. The first time I don’t give you what you want, or threaten what you believe, you’ll put that concept onto me.” This might sound harsh, but my friend had asked me to always tell her the truth. The tears in her eyes were tears of gratitude, she said.

No one knows what’s good and what’s bad. No one knows what death is. Maybe it’s not a something; maybe it’s not even a nothing. It’s the pure unknown, and I love that. We imagine that death is a state of being or a state of nothingness, and we frighten ourselves with our own concepts. I’m a lover of what is: I love sickness and health, coming and going, life and death. I see life and death as equal. Reality is good; so death must be good, whatever it is, if it’s anything at all.

Until you experience death as a gift, your work’s not done. So if you’re afraid of it, that shows you what to question next. There’s nothing else to do; you’re either believing these childish stories, or
